About the American Medaka Association
A nonprofit community dedicated to ethical breeding, education, and the preservation of true medaka lineage — the Japanese rice fish.
Our purpose
The American Medaka Association (AMA) is a volunteer-led organization formed by medaka keepers in the U.S. who are committed to promoting integrity, transparency, and education in the hobby. We exist to support responsible sourcing and help grow a healthy medaka culture — not as a marketplace, but as a movement.
As Japanese rice fish grew rapidly in popularity, so did concerns around misinformation, egg scams, and the decline of true strain integrity. AMA was created to protect and guide the community. We are organized around the values that guide everything we do.
Education
We share accessible, science-grounded resources on care, genetics, lineage, and fixation so keepers at every level can succeed.
Ethical Breeding
We promote transparent, accountable practices and honest representation of strains. We don't allow egg sales — selling live fish supports better quality control and traceability.
Traceability & Lineage
We verify creators, origin, and stabilization of strains to prevent misinformation and dilution — and to recognize and honor the original creators (作出者).
Community
We connect hobbyists, breeders, and educators in a trustworthy network — built on the honor system and shared values.
